Letter to my boss...

Sun Jun 28, 2009, 9:56 AM
I just hit Send... I hope this doesn't backfire on me. *sigh*

T & N,

Sometime near the beginning of April, we received two rollover slots for the three remaining contractors. At the time, each of us was told that whomever wasn’t chosen would probably be rolled over shortly thereafter, maybe a month or so later.

It has been approximately ten weeks since then, two people have been rolled over, and someone on Mail who has only been here for 3 months got rolled over earlier this month I believe.

I really agonized over sending an email, and I apologise if this email seems snarky or if I seem upset, but I’m a little over a month from my one year anniversary and I have never been a temp in any job this long. Since starting, we have taken over several new properties, our workloads have all increased, I have volunteered on more than one occasion to help out the team, even when it directly negatively impacted myself, and I’m not really seeing anymore benefit than when I started. Meanwhile, three of my coworkers have been converted and I’m seeing other people around me getting hired fulltime who’ve been here for way less time than me.

My friends, my coworkers, my wife and family have all asked me why I haven’t been converted to a fulltime employee, yet. I don’t have any answers for them, and that troubles me.

My work ethic is solid. I haven’t missed that many days of work and I’m almost always on time or early for my shift (and there are people who routinely walk in 10-15 minutes late every single day). My production and quality numbers are also very solid. I do what’s requested of me, every single day, and I do it very well.

My question is simple, really.

How long should I wait for a train which doesn’t appear to be coming?
